Subject: Circulating job ad for new quantitative resource center at Carleton College

Dear Michael, Grace, and Mary,

Carleton is creating a new Quantitative Resource Center and so is hiring a Director. (See job ad below.) We've circulated the description on the NNN and SIGMAAQL listservs, but I thought that you all may have your own email networks in the QMASC community. Please pass this on to any who might be interested.

Thanks!
Nathan

Carleton College seeks a Director for its new Quantitative Resource Center. This is a full-time position with administrative responsibilities; the Director will also hold a non-tenure track faculty appointment with a two-course teaching load. The Director will be charged with supporting quantitative skills and reasoning (QS/QR) across the curriculum, including faculty and staff professional development, and coordinating support for the development of students’ applied quantitative skills.

Key responsibilities include leadership in faculty development, organization of a drop-in student support center, and oversight of the College’s quantitative reasoning requirement. The Director will have the opportunity to generate new curricular directions as well as to work with ongoing campus initiatives. The Director will also support the development of Quantitative Reasoning Encounters across the curriculum and facilitate campus coordination and communication across multiple offices to help identify ways to reduce academic barriers and enhance the support for students with identifiable skill gaps in QS/QR. The Director will help the College enhance its programs for supporting all students, especially those from groups traditionally under-represented in higher education based on race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or those who are in the first generation in their families to attend college.

The Director will receive a budget for professional activities and programs connected to QS/QR. The Director will have a departmental affiliation, which will be established according to the candidate’s teaching interests.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to:

· the mission of a highly-selective residential liberal arts college with a diverse student body

· the theory and practice of QS/QR

· partnering with faculty across the disciplines to promote QS/QR at Carleton

· scholarly engagement in QS/QR and the study of teaching and learning

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

· at least 2-4 years of related experience

· strong administrative skills

· a Ph.D. in a field connected to the work of the QRC

In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, the position includes professional development opportunities. To apply, candidates should submit a letter of application that addresses the goals of Quantitative Skills and Reasoning at a liberal arts college, a CV, and contact information for three references online at jobs.carleton.edu<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjobs.carleton.edu%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cschuckers%40stlawu.edu%7C76510e5beb0f4b48aef808d64404f088%7Cbb31816d91e742198acbd6c0e715eb0c%7C1%7C0%7C636771185343567586&sdata=LuwonOZ10HBY97aLGs4IRh4sXvDnxNzbf5fOdnDyy1E%3D&reserved=0>. Review of applications will begin on December 5, 2018. Inquiries may directed to Professor Nathan Grawe at ngrawe at carelton.edu<mailto:ngrawe at carelton.edu>.
