Dear Colleagues,
Smith College and Williams College are hosting the twenty-first meeting of
the Northeast Consortium for Quantitative Literacy (NECQL) at Smith College
in Northampton, Massachusetts on March 24th and 25th.
Our webpage has an updated accommodations
<https://www.smith.edu/qlc/NECQLXXI.html?colAccom=open#PanelAccom> section and
the registration page <https://goo.gl/forms/t3fmBHg2nNec0amk2> is now
available! We have updated the program on the conference webpage
<https://www.smith.edu/qlc/NECQLXXI.html?colRegistration=open#PanelRegistration>,
and will continue to update the program as we get more information.
NECQL is a forum for the discussion of issues and the dissemination of
information related to quantitative literacy.
- The program on Saturday will focus on bridging the experience gap. The
morning program includes presentations about how some institutions address
the experience gap that often presents as math or quantitative preparedness
issues and what some programs are doing to help students reach college
level readiness and acquire skills that allow them to engage in STEM+
college level courses. The afternoon program includes a guided workshop for
attendees to develop actionable items for themselves and their institutions.
- The program on Sunday will focus on Quantitative and Math Support
Centers (QMaSC). The topic is "What do our tutors need and how do we
provide it for them?" Tutor training activities and a discussion of a
professional organization are part of Sunday's agenda.
Faculty and administrators working in this area are invited to attend. This
year we are collecting a small registration fee, which includes lunch each
day.
We hope to see you in March!
Best regards,
Cat McCune (Smith) & Laura Muller (Williams)
Laura Muller, PhD in chemistry, is the Director of Quantitative Skills
Programs and Peer Support at Williams College.
Cat McCune, PhD in mathematics, is the Director of the Spinelli Center for
