Greeting fellow members of the North-East Consortium on Quantitative Literacy,
You are cordially invited to the New School university for this year’s annual meeting being held on the Saturday May 20th. More details will be available shortly on a dedicated website.
If you would like to give a brief presentation, we have reserved some time slots in addition to dedicated spots for our key note speakers. While the general theme of the meeting is the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the consortium, - looking back on the evolution of the QR/QL movement and formulating future directions, more specific talks and short workshops are welcomed. We would also love to have a selection of posters communicating your recent endeavors in the area of development and classroom or learning center delivery of QR resources. Simply prepare the posters and we will have them professional printed and showcased during the meeting.
A dedicated RSVP section will be included on the coming website. You are encouraged to RSVP now if possible to assure that we can properly accommodate all participants. In either case, it would be sincerely appreciated if you could simply respond to this email after filling the fields below.
The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the Lang College for Liberal Arts, Parsons School of Design, and the University at large are excited about the event and look forward to your participation.
We are contemplating continuing the celebration on Sunday with more related activities such as a guided tour of the Museum of Mathematics among others.
I am looking forward to hearing from you,

Ross.

Thanks guys. I totally understand. It just works better here if I am more assertive with my preferences. I actually think May 13th might have been their first choice.

As I mentioned earlier, should have this settled by tomorrow and will send out a save the date.

Thanks for your help

Ross.

Hi Ross,

Only the 5/13 date works for me. But I agree with Michael, you need to pick a date that works best for you and your campus.

Ross,
I think you have to do what works best for you and your campus. Each of us will have things on various weekends that will eliminate us. Getting into mid May is mother’s day and graduations.

June can work it is just out of phase with past conferences, but might be a good choice.

Would 4/29, or 5/6 or 5/13 work?

Great. Thanks for the quick response. June seems late to me.

More to add May 20th is weekend of the US conference on Undergraduate Teaching of Statistics at Penn State.

Hi, Michael,

I'm trying to lock the date with my chair and dean. June seems to be problematic (but possible). Here's the info I got, let me know if any of the proposed days would work (although I am still pulling for June).

" Ross,
Please do not plan this in June yet as this year there are some challenges with our retreat and program work
a. May 20th is graduation
b. Memorial day weekend comes up fast
c. We have not planned out Grad party nor our retreat

2. Can you choose a date in May on a weekend earlier? or late April after Earth Day
( Sat April 22nd, maybe the following weekend)
"

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Oh, and I will be seeing Eric in April here on campus. I am working with MOMA to organize a visit during the weekend.

I am optimistic that I will have a date and my preferred conference room locked by end of week.

Ross.

Yes. As promised, we will be hosting and excited about. We will be working with Parsons, more specifically, Carol Overby whom you already know (I believe). I'm working with our events to solidify the date and the room that I want to reserve. I did mention to you guys that end of May is a really difficult time to reserve space and support staff. There are many events and course related work that needs to be completed during that time. Would it be possible to hold the meeting in the first week of June? I have been uploading some materials from last year in the shared Google folder and have downloaded all of the helpful docs.

I have also answered some of questions. Momath is a yes. Data Science is a yes. There has been progress from the financial literacy group. Our QR course sequence is thriving. I will provide more info and stats I've collecting, as well as adjustments, successes and challenges. I will post in the drive. Maybe we can dedicate some time talking about the need and outcomes of official QR course offerings, especially in Liberal Arts colleges. This will just be iterations and advancements inspired by and built on Eric's work. I relied quite a bit on his assistance when I became the university's QR Director. Eric is one of the reviewers of our department"s (Natural Science and Mathematics) APR, so our Dean has been in contact with him recently and once we have a date I will email or call him to extend a speaker invitation.

I will be checking in regularly with updates by email and Google drive.

Ross.

Ross,
Hello.

Just wanted to followup on yesterday’s flurry of emails. We (Matt, Grace, Cat and I ) were on a conference call and we had some ideas for NECQL this year. Thanks again to you and The New School for willingness to host. (I’m assuming you’re still planning on hosting this Spring.) As Cat (Catherine McCune from Smith) noted, picking a date and getting a ‘save the date’ out is probably first priority in the near term. Along with that should probably be a call for speakers which will help fill out the program.

Let us all know if there are any other things that we can do to help with the NECQL planning.

Cheers,
Cat, Grace, Matt and Schuckers
