Subject: JMM 2012 Panel

Hi all,
Apologies for cross-postings.

At the 2012 JMM meetings in Boston I have organized a panel discussion on Wed. January 4 at 9am entitled “Quantitative Support Centers: Common Themes”.

Below is the abstract for the panel:
Quantitative Support Centers (QSC) have arisen in the last 20 to 30 years and nearly every academic institution has some form of mathematics help or tutoring. Each QSC has some characteristics that are specific to their particular institution but there are some commonalities. Some QSC’s simply provide drop-in help; others play specific roles in support of quantitative initiatives on their campuses. This panel will bring together the directors of several QSC's from a variety of institutions. Discussion will center on the issues that often arise in leading a QSC. These include staffing, training, scheduling, interactions with faculty and administrators, etc. There will also be a discussion of resources that are available for QSC directors.

Please forward as appropriate and I hope to see you in Boston.

Cheers,
M.
