Dear colleagues and friends of QL

I'm writing in case any of you would like a 
spring fling in delightful Keene this weekend and 
have not registered for the NECQL meeting.

Eileen and Shari have put together a great 
program (I've copied part of the website below) 
and I hope you can join us.

Charlotte Gregory from Trinity had some trouble 
registering on line a while ago, and in case any 
of you experienced problems, I'm including the 
weblink again (it's functioning fine now).

Hope to see you there, compare notes, plan for the future.

PROGRAM FOR SATURDAY APRIL 17


     *  9:00am: Arrival and breakfast
     * 9:30am: Welcome by Dr. Emile Netzhammer, 
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
     * 10:00am: The Bates-Bowdoin Collaboration QUR Across the Curriculum
       Presenters:
       Matt Coté, Associate Dean of the Faculty, Bates College
       Eric Gaze, Director of the QR Program, Bowdoin College
       The first portion of this presentation will 
consist of an overview of the project; a 
description of the collaboration between Bates 
and Bowdoin Colleges, both during the proposal 
writing stage and in the first year of the 
project; and an outline of the goals and expected 
outcomes of the project. The focus will then turn 
to the assessment components of the project, and 
include the presentation of preliminary data from 
quantitative skills testing and surveys. The 
content of recent discussions of the use of 
quantitative reasoning as a tool for teaching 
reasoning more broadly will also be conveyed. 
Question and answer sessions will be interspersed 
throughout the presentation, which will culminate 
in a workshop during which participants consider 
sample QR questions, create their own, and 
discuss their results.
     * 12:00pm: Lunch in the Madison Street 
Lounge, first floor of the Lloyd P. Young Student 
Center
     * 1:00pm: NECQL administrative meeting
     * 1:30pm: Quantitative Literacy at Keene 
State College - a Panel Discussion Presenters:
       Ann Rancourt, Associate Provost
       Gordon Leversee, Dean of the Sciences and Social Sciences
       Patrick Dolenc, Professor of Economics
       Richard Jardine, Professor of Mathematics
       Therese Seibert, Professor of Sociology
       Edward Pokras, Adjunct Faculty of Geology
       The panel presenters will share the journey 
Keene State College has taken with regards to 
creating and assessing a Quantitative Literacy 
course for first year students as an integral 
part of our new general education program called 
the Integrative Studies Program (ISP).
     * 4:00pm: Announcements
