Hi Turner,
These are good ideas and we would like to encourage you to plan on focusing on this line of thought or another idea that could incorporate GIS capabilities. I would suggest you and Bach talk it over and see what both of you are interested in doing. We can figure a way for you to work on a project along those lines.

I will have a copy of the iso for the live cd up on our server later today so you can burn a copy and run it. The features you mention are somewhat incorporated as part of the shelter registry and the situational awareness modules, they are by no means complete. We can bring this up for discussion at the meeting on Monday.

Trishan

Hi Trishan and Prof. Morelli,

Thanks for your feedback. I realize that it is a fairly large-scale
project. I mainly mentioned it as a general suggestion, not necessarily
as a project for this semester. However, I personally (I don't know
about Bach) would like to work on it, especially as it might give us a
chance to work with the Google maps API, which I think would be pretty
interesting. If this were to be a project for some team this semester,
could that team simply aim for limited implementation? For example, just
aim to implement a medical facility registry and/or the mapping feature?
And maybe the implementation could be completed next semester? Also, I
think the project is made more feasible by the fact that much of the
implementation is already somewhat encapsulated in other modules (camp
registry/organization registry, inventory management...), so those
modules can be used as templates.

Trishan, you mentioned a pandemic customization in a recent version
of Sahana. Is this essentially what I had described? That is, would the
module I suggested be redundant, or basically already implemented? Or do
you think it might still be a worthy pursuit? I'm eager to look at the
new live CD, which I imagine will answer some of these questions.

Thanks,
    Turner

The features you mention are somewhat incorporated into a pandemic customization that was done by Sahana. We used this for the first time during the Strong Angel Disaster simulation. Its part of a situational awareness module that tells you the bed availability in various locations. As prof.Morelli mentioned this might be a little too much to work on this semester. However I would encourage you to explore the ideas further and share your thoughts with everyone.

I will try and make the ISO available later this week for everyone to take a look at. As its a live CD version all you have to do is boot of the CD and you are up and running.
